The Hafnarborg Songfest – Sympathy

Programme

The Hafnarborg Songfest takes place for the fourth time from July 2nd–12th 2020. The Songfest is dedicated to classical music, art song, opera and choral music. The mission of The Songfest is to celebrate vocal music and increase knowledge of the voice through concerts and courses.

At The Hafnarborg Songfest this year, there will be eight concerts, featuring outstanding vocalists and instrumentalists, in addition to a number of courses for children and adults, beginners as well as advanced singers. The founders and directors of The Songfest are Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, and Francisco Javier Jáuregui, classical guitarist.

July 2nd at 8 p.m
The Icelandic chamber choir Hljómeyki, conducted by Þorvaldur Örn Davíðsson, performs popular Icelandic choral pieces.

July 3rd at 5 p.m.
Free Family Concert, featuring Vala Guðnadóttir, soprano, performing songs from different countries, accompanied by violinist Matthías Stefánsson and pianist Sigurður Helgi Oddson.

July 4th at 5 p.m.
Icelandic opera stars Dísella Lárusdóttir, soprano, and Bjarni Thor Kristinsson, bass, perform arias and duets from famous operas, accompanied by pianist Antonía Hevesi.

July 5th at 5 p.m.
Eyjólfur Eyjólfsson, tenor, Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, and Francisco Javier Jáuregui, classical guitarist, perform lute songs and songs of compassion.

July 7th at 8 p.m.
The chamber choir Cantoque Ensemble, conducted by Steinar Logi Helgason, performs Aldasöngur by Jón Nordal, as well as new and old Icelandic choral gems.

July 9th at 8 p.m.
Advanced and emerging singers participating in Kristinn Sigmundsson‘s Master Class perform songs and arias, accompanied by pianist Hrönn Þráinsdóttir.

July 11th at 5 p.m.
Australian Heldentenor Stuart Skelton and pianist Matthildur Anna Gísladóttir perform art songs, bridging the gap between the 20th century and the late romantic.

July 12th at 5 p.m.
Kristinn Sigmundsson, bass, Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir, soprano, Hrólfur Sæmundsson, baritone, Guðrún Jóhanna Ólafsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, Gunnlaugur Bjarnason, baritone, Anna Guðný  Guðmundsdóttir, pianist, and Francisco Javier Jáuregui, classical guitarist, perform art songs by Icelandic composer Jón Ásgeirsson.
