Museum Night at Hafnarborg – Life, Light and Shadows

Friday February 7th at 6 p.m.–11 p.m., Museum Night will take place in Hafnarborg, during which time the exhibitions will be open and a number of events will occur, such as a concert, a workshop, guided tours and more. The museum will be teeming with life, as the focus of the events and the exhibitions is on the relationship between man and nature or the interplay between light and shadows. For more information about the events, see below.

Silent Spring
18:00–23:00
Group exhibition featuring Hertta Kiiski, Katrín Elvarsdóttir and Lilja Birgisdóttir, curated by Daría Sól Andrews. The artists invoke a tender warmth towards nature, while calling attention to the effects of our wasteful practices on the environment. The exhibition is a part of The Icelandic Photo Festival.

Far
18:00–23:00
An exhibition of works by artist Þórdís Jóhannesdóttir in dialogue with Ralph Hannam, an amateur photographer who was active in Iceland in the mid-20th century. Both artists approach the photographic medium in a creative manner, as the interplay between form, light and shadows is of greater importance than the subject matter itself. The exhibition is a part of The Icelandic Photo Festival.

Book Market
18:00–23:00
On Museum Night, there will be a book market at Hafnarborg, where various books from the museum shop will be sold at a special price. 19:00–21:00
A special workshop, for children and their parents, based on the interplay of light and shadows, under the guidance of Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir, artist. Inspiration will be drawn from the works of Þórdís Jóhannesdóttir and Ralph Hannam, in order to create new stories. Participants are encouraged to bring a phone or digital camera to take pictures or make videos. Participants must also be able to use scissors and parents are expected to assist young children.
