Friday October 14th at 6 p.m., the jazz quartet KuVenda will perform at the second Afternoon Concert of the season at Hafnarborg, but KuVenda is a multinational collaboration between Icelandic guitarist Andrés Thor, Slovakian vibraphonist Miro Herak, Dutch drummer/percussionist Vinsent Planjer and Italian bassist Andrea Caruso. The programme will include compositions by members of the quartet, including songs from their EP Step One, which was released last year, as well as compositions from contemporary jazz composers.
The quartet, founded in August 2019, resides for the most part in the Netherlands, where it appeared for the first time at the Jazz in de Gracht jazzfestival in Den Haag that same year. Having worked together on various projects from the time they were students at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag around the year 2000, Andrés, Miro and Vinsent then decided to recruit bassist Andrea Caruso for the project.
KuVenda’s music blends the open sounds of European neojazz, lyrical soundscapes from nordic jazz and folk culture, as well as a primal rhythmical energy based on the broad influences of various contemporary music styles. KuVenda’s first release is the EP Step One, available on all streaming platforms.
The concert lasts for approximately one hour and admission is free.
The concert series is supported by the town of Hafnarfjörður and the FÍH Culture Fund.
