Sunday April 27th at 8 p.m., Hafnarborg will host a concert by harpist Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir and percussionist Matthias Engler, performing together as Ensemble Adapter. The programme is dedicated to the music of German composer Walter Zimmermann, a leading figure in German contemporary music since the 1970s. Zimmermann has made a significant impact not just as a composer but also by creating links between German and American contemporary music. This concert is part of Hafnarborg’s concert series, Phonemes.
Zimmermann’s music can be described as concise and free of unnecessary embellishments. It features simple, clear musical ideas that are allowed to grow and develop organically without interruption. In recent years, Gunnhildur and Matthias have worked closely with Zimmermann in performing his works. On that note, the programme will include a recent composition for harp and percussion, written especially for the duo, as well as the solo harp piece Skýjastaðir (Wolkenorte) from 1980.
Tickets are sold in Hafnarborg: general admittance is 2,500 ISK, with a reduced price of 1,500 ISK for senior citizens and students.
Phonemes, Hafnarborg’s contemporary concert series, is dedicated to presenting works by composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, leading audiences into unexplored sonic landscapes through the unique artistic vision of each featured composer. The series has been part of the museum’s programme since 2013. The concert is supported by The Music Fund.
