In My Language – Multilingual Dream Collage Workshop

Saturday March 22nd at 1-3 p.m., Hafnarborg invites Icelandic-, Arabic-, and English-speaking families to participate in a workshop exploring dreams, imagination and mixing cultures, led by Egyptian artist Nermine El Ansari and Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir.

At the workshop, children and adults will be invited to create their own dreamworlds through paper collages. What happens when fragments of Icelandic landscape are mixed with patterns from a Persian carpet or architecture from Syria? In imaginary worlds there are no limits, spaceships can land on Mýrdalsjökull glacier or the Taj Mahal can pop up on Sprengisandur. Bring the family and explore your imaginary world! All materials will be provided.

Nermine El Ansari (b. 1975) is an Egyptian visual artist living between Reykjavík, Cairo and Marseille. She has an MA in multimedia from the Fine Arts school of Paris and a BA degree in painting from the Fine Arts of Versailles.

Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir (b. 1976) is an Icelandic artist living in Hafnarfjörður. She has an MA degree in Fine Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts, as well as a BA degree in Art History from the University of Aarhus. Ingunn Fjóla is also the founder of the GETA aid organisation.

In My Language is an event programme focused on making Hafnarborg more accessible to people of different backgrounds by welcoming guests to the museum in various languages. The event is a collaboration between Hafnarborg and GETA – Aid Organisation that works to build a more tolerant and inclusive society through a wide range of activities. The programme is supported by the Museum Fund.

The workshop will take place on the ground floor of the museum. It’s open to individuals of all ages and skill levels, but children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As always, participation in workshops and entrance to the museum’s exhibitions is free of charge.
