Holiday Season at Hafnarborg – Midday Tour of Exhibitions

Wednesday December 14th at 12 p.m., we invite you to a midday tour of our current exhibitions, high tide – low tide and Alluding to Nature, as part of the museum’s holiday programming. On the occasion, Unnur Mjöll S. Leifsdóttir, specialist, will lead guests on a walkthrough of the exhibitions, giving insight into the artworks and the ideas presented. The tour will last for approximately half an hour.

high tide – low tide
The exhibition features works by seven international artists reflecting on their or our relationship with the sea. Many of them were brought up on islands and all of them come from countries where the sea has shaped life, society and culture in a marked way. In these current times, facing climate change, we may also observe the changes happening at the shore, such as rising sea levels, which will have a significant impact on the world in years to come.

Alluding to Nature
The Hafnarborg Collection contains numerous artworks that allude to nature and this exhibition highlights a selection of these works, focusing on textural works, organic shapes and curved forms. The works on display are both two- and three-dimensional – reliefs and photographs, paintings, textiles and ceramics. Each showing in its own way how different artists approach and portray nature – but mankind’s earliest artistic endeavours have often been said to reflect a desire to imitate nature.

Free entry – everyone welcome.
