Culture Walk – Hreinn Friðfinnsson and the Lava

Wednesday July 9th at 8 p.m., artist Styrmir Örn Guðmundsson will lead a walk to the First and Third House by Hreinn Friðfinnsson. The route will follow the discontinued road to Keflavík, through the lava field towards Smalaskálaker, where The Third House has stood since 2011. Styrmir Örn, who worked for many years as Hreinn Friðfinnsson’s assistant, will offer insight into the artist’s creative process and the ideas behind this remarkable work, situated in a landscape that both conceals and reveals it. The walk invites participants to experience art and nature from a fresh perspective, equally suited to art enthusiasts and the curious.

The walk will begin at the parking lot by Straumsvík, at Gerði by Barböruvegur (see here). Due to roadwork in the area, carpooling is recommended. The walk is expected to take around two hours or more.

The town of Hafnarfjörður offers a programme of special health and culture walks every Wednesday evening through the summer. The walks usually last for one hour, starting at 8 p.m. The walks are a collaborative project by Hafnarborg, The Hafnarfjörður Museum, The Hafnarfjörður Library and The Health Town Hafnarfjörður. Participation is free of charge and everyone is welcome. The event is in Icelandic.
