Book Launch – Republication of The Red Fish by Rúna

Friday October 10th at 4 p.m., Hafnarborg will host a launch event for the republication of The Red Fish by Rúna, Sigrún Guðjónsdóttir, newly released by the publisher Bókabeitan in both the original Icelandic and in an English translation by the author. Layout and graphic design are by Blær Guðmundsdóttir.

First published in 1972 and then again in 1988 with the illustrations featured in this edition, The Red Fish brings together text and images in a seamless whole that is both captivating and full of wonder. This new release offers young readers the chance to discover a timeless gem of Icelandic children’s literature.

The story follows Little Simbi, the only bright red fish in the deep blue sea, as he sets out on a journey to find other fish who look like him. Along the way, he swims through oceans both cold and warm – sometimes frightened, sometimes excited, but always hopeful that one day he will meet a little red playmate and find true happiness.

Over the course of an artistic career that has spanned illustration and graphic design, painting, ceramics and large-scale murals, Rúna has received numerous awards and distinctions. These include the Order of the Falcon, Iceland’s highest honour, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Iceland Design and Architecture.

Join us for light refreshments and take advantage of a special launch offer on the book.

Everyone is warmly welcome.
