Tuesday September 1st at 12 p.m., we warmly welcome you to the first Midday Concert of the new season at Hafnarborg, when the singer Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir will be the guest of Antonía Hevesi, pianist and artistic director of the concert series.

Hildigunnur Einarsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, completed her diploma at the Reykjavík School of Singing and pursued further studies in Germany and the Netherlands. Hildigunnur also holds a BA degree in Creative Music Communication from the Iceland University of the Arts. She has been a prominent presence on the church music scene and has, among other things, performed solo roles in Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabeus, as well as Bach’s St Matthew Passion, St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio, and Guðbrandsmessa by Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the North Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Brák Baroque Ensemble, Caput and the Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra. In addition, she has premiered numerous works, including works by Hreiðar Ingi Þorsteinsson, Ingibjörg Ýr Skarphéðinsdóttir, John Speight and Kolbeinn Bjarnason.
Recently, Hildigunnur sang a duet with soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan at a concert with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and also took part in Ritual at Harpa alongside the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. She received the Icelandic Music Award in 2023 for Vocal Performance of the Year in the Classical and Contemporary Music category. Hildigunnur was recently appointed a permanent member of the newly established National Opera and will sing the role of Mistress Quickly in the company’s production of Verdi’s Falstaff in spring 2027.
Antonía Hevesi, pianist, has since the beginning served as the artistic director of the Midday Concert series at Hafnarborg, which has been a regular part of the museum’s programme since 2003. In this role, Antonía has collaborated with many of the country’s leading vocalists, with the aim of offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music performances at a relaxed pace. The Midday Concerts are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.
The concert starts promptly at 12 p.m., lasting for approximately half an hour. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the concert is open to all, as long as seating is available. Free entry.
