MEN

Curver Thoroddsen, Finnur Arnar Arnarson, Hlynur Hallsson, Kristinn G. Harðarson

The exhibition MEN focuses on the status of men at the beginning of the 21st century and the changes that have occurred in the circumstances of the revised status of women.

Works by four Icelandic male artists will be on display, Curver Thoroddsen (b. 1976), Finnur Arnar Arnarson (b. 1965), Hlynur Hallsson (b. 1968) og Kristinn G. Harðarson (b. 1955).

The works selected for the exhibition are made in a variety of media, both video-works, photographs, paintings, drawings and embroidery work. In the works the artists view and question the status of men within the family in terms of concepts of participation in home life, financial responsibilities and raising children.

The works in the exhibition raise important questions about masculinity and potentially conflicting signals from the environment and society. The key characteristic of these works, however, is the intimacy that can be read from the position of the artists to the family and the child and in some pieces there can be distinguished existential crisis.
