Sunday November 12th at 2 p.m. we invite you to a curatorial talk of the exhibition VALUE, featuring select works that have been acquired by the museum since 2008. Curator Hólmar Hólm will greet guests and speak about this collection exhibition, marking 40 years since the founding of Hafnarborg.
It can be said that a museum or a collection reflects the values of the one doing the collecting. This applies to a public or private collection in equal measure. The collection becomes a statement of the priorities of the person(s) that founded it – whether by sheer interest, a deep-rooted passion and inner need, or even by happenstance. When a collection is then passed on to the community, it gains a life of its own, revealing something about the community itself as it continues to grow. About the ever-changing zeitgeist and people’s preferences, about materials and focus, about ideas and ambitions.
On view are works by artists Egill Sæbjörnsson, Georg Guðni, Guðný Rósa Ingimarsdóttir, Haraldur Jónsson, Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir, Ingólfur Arnarsson, Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir, Philipp Valenta, Sirra Sigrún Sigurðardóttir and Una Björg Magnúsdóttir.
Free entry – everyone welcome.
