Midday Concert – Margrét Hrafnsdóttir

Tuesday April 7th at 12 p.m., we warmly welcome you to the next Midday Concert at Hafnarborg, when Margrét Hrafnsdóttir will be the guest of Antonía Hevesi, pianist and artistic director of the concert series. On this occasion, they will present Viennese music, or operettas, by the composers Sieczyński, Stolz, Strauss and Lehár.

Margrét Hrafnsdóttir, soprano, is an active performer on the Icelandic concert scene and has, among other things, premiered works by Ingibjörg Azima, Oliver Kentish and Steingrímur Þórhallsson. She has received grants from the Wagner Society in Stuttgart, Hlaðvarpinn, the Music Fund and has also received support from the Artists’ Salary Fund. Margrét has given solo concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Sweden, spanning everything from rarely heard works to folk songs and varied and dramatic theatre and operatic music.

In 2007, together with the cellist Ólöf Sigursveinsdóttir, she released the album Hjartahljóð, íslensk þjóðlög. In 2015, the album Vorljóð á Ýli was released, featuring songs by Ingibjörg Azima in arrangements for an unconventional chamber ensemble with bassoon, accordion, clarinet, double bass and cello. In October 2025, the album LOGN, also with music by Ingibjörg, was released. Margrét has also sung roles in Icelandic operas, including Freyja in Þrymskviða by Jón Ásgeirsson and the Witch in Ár og öld by Þórunn Guðmundsdóttir. On October 19th last year, she premiered, at Opera Days together with the pianist Hrönn Þráinsdóttir, the percussionist Diddi Guðnason and the horn player Justin Mange, the opera or narrative poem Urta by Ingibjörg Azima to a text by Gerður Kristný.

Antonía Hevesi, pianist, has since the beginning served as the artistic director of the Midday Concert series at Hafnarborg, which has been a regular part of the museum’s programme since 2003. In this role, Antonía has collaborated with many of the country’s leading vocalists, with the aim of offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music performances at a relaxed pace. The Midday Concerts are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.

The concert starts promptly at 12 p.m., lasting for approximately half an hour. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the concert is open to all, as long as seating is available. Free entry.
