The exhibition Cadence, featuring select works by artist Guðmunda Andrésdóttir, is set to end next Sunday, August 22nd, and so a guided tour of the exhibition will take place at 2 p.m. on its last day. Curators Unnur Mjöll S. Leifsdóttir and Hólmar Hólm will then talk with guests about the exhibition and Guðmunda’s life work. Guests are reminded to wear masks at the event, as well as maintaining distance between unrelated parties.
Guðmunda Andrésdóttir (1922-2002) belonged to the group of artists that worked in the style of geometric abstraction in Iceland, regularly participating in exhibitions with the well known Septem-Group, for example. Guðmunda was notably the only woman who participated in the group’s exhibitions, but at the time, in the postwar period, artists, both men and women, went down the line of abstraction, seeking an international language that might express universal truth, common and comprehensible to people of all backgrounds, in a similar way to music.
Free entry and everyone welcome. Please note that the talk will be in Icelandic.
