Towards Nature

Eiríkur Smith

This exhibition features works by artist Eiríkur Smith, belonging to the Hafnarborg Collection. Watercolours, sketches and paintings from the ’50s and ’60s are placed against one another. During this period, Eiríkur was shifting from geometric to natural abstraction. The energy which tends to characterize his later works can be seen in development at this time.

Over a long and successful career, Eiríkur Smith (1925-2016) tackled various styles of painting. Hafnarborg preserves a number of the artist’s works, as Eiríkur donated nearly four hundred pieces, oil paintings, watercolours and drawings, to the museum in 1990.

The curators of the exhibition are Ágústa Kristófersdóttir and Þorbjörg Br. Gunnarsdóttir.
