Sunday February 1st at 3 p.m. artist, Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir, discusses in Icelandic her exhibition, Development, that is currently on display at Hafnarborg.
With her installation, Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir creates a platform where all steps of film making are made visible in a life movie studio where a constantly changing movie is shot in a specially prepared movie set.
Development is a completely independent world where creation, mediation, processing and reception all take place at the same space. Development is both a sculpture, performance and interactive piece where the artist as well as the viewers can influence the development of the piece.
Hekla Dögg Jónsdóttir (1969) graduated from The Icelandic College of Art and Crafts in 1994 and spent two years as a guest student in Germany. She received a BFA 1997 and a MFA 1999 from California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles. In 1998 she received a Fellowship to attend Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, in Maine, US. Since 1999 Hekla has exhibited her works actively both nationally and internationally. She has taken on the role of a curator for several exhibitions. Hekla is one of the founders of “Kling & Bang gallery” and since 2012 she has taken a position as a professor in the fine arts department at the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
